Almeria

In Andalusia you can enjoy 800 kilometers of coastline and 320 days of sun per year. But this region in southeastern Spain offers more - magnificent Moorish architecture and fiery flamenco. Almería, a city of 180,000 residents is located in eastern Andalusia on the coast of the same name. The best view of the lively harbour metropolis is from the impressive Moorish fortress Alcazaba. Rugged cliff formations and beautiful beaches line the coast to the east of Almería. To the north of the city lies the desert of Almería and the marvelous settings used in the film "Manitou's Shoe [Der Schuh des Manitu]" - including a Western-style town. The most spectacular day trip destination is definitely the Alhambra of Granada, one of the most beautiful palaces in the world. Even the drive through the Sierra Nevada to Granada is breathtaking.
