Bangalore – Boomtown with a Maharaja palace

Bangalore is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Following Mumbai and Delhi, this city of over 8 million residents is India`s third largest. And Bangalore is booming! This metropolis is a centre for electronic and information technology as well as for the civil and military air and space industries. Due to its relatively prosperous middle class, Western-style consumption has arrived here with shopping centres, multiplex cinemas, restaurants and bars. Because of its numerous charming parks, Bangalore is often called the "garden city".

Mysore, famous for its palace and its production of incense sticks, is located southwest of Bangalore. Don`t pass up an opportunity to visit the magnificent Maharaja palace! At the entrance visitors take off their shoes and walk barefoot over the elegant marble and mosaic-tiled floors. On Sunday evenings, the palace is lit up from outside to a musical accompaniment.

A large number of significant religious and historical sites are located in Karnataka state, including the bizarre ruins in Hampi to the north of Bangalore and the gigantic statue of the god Bahubali in Sravanabelagola north of Mysore.
