The symbol of the city is an elephant – or to be more precise, the elephant statue on the Piazza del Duomo. I love to spend my time on that bustling, lively square. What’s more, it is really close to the pescheria, the market. You can smell the fresh fish and the spices, hear the murmur of the sea and take the time to appreciate the beautiful baroque facades of the buildings around it. Tip: try some of the fruit ice cream for which Catania is famous. Head for the confectionery shops in Via Etnea to sample the best.
