The Greek Aegean island of Chios is located directly off the Turkish coast. You can take a boat trip to nearby Cesme and proceed to Izmir from there on. With over 50, in some cases unspoilt beaches, very few people will want to give the island a miss. But if you are bored with the beach or water sports, you can discover the island on mountain bike or by car, depending on how sporty you are. In addition to picturesque villages, Chios also has numerous monasteries and fortresses from various eras to offer.
