Dammam

The harbour city of Dammam is an important site for the Saudi Arabian oil industry. It is located to the northwest of Bahrain on a peninsula direct on the Persian Gulf. A city of 750,000, Dammam is the fifth largest city in Saudi Arabia and the largest city in the eastern part of the kingdom. When oil was discovered in 1938, Dammam was only a small fishing village. Within just a few decades, the city had grown rapidly and became the capital of the eastern province.

The most popular local recreation area in Dammam is a promenade along an ocean bay, 11 kilometres long. Here visitors will find many leisure activities, playgrounds and works of art displayed outdoors. In the modern King Fahd Park there are cafés, swimming pools, fountains and a children´s amusement park. The most popular beach near Dammam is at Half Moon Bay. The name of the beach is related to its half moon shape.
