The medieval city centre, among other features, testifies to Erfurt's place among Germany's oldest cities. But Erfurt also has a contemporary side, demonstrated for example by one of the most advanced media centres in Germany, the glass MDR broadcasting centre. Encircling these witnesses to past and present is a green belt inviting visitors to take part in a wide range of activities in these natural surroundings. Pay a visit to Thuringia's capital city, as Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, Martin Luther, Adam Riese and Napoleon did.
