Halmstad is an important harbour and industrial city in Sweden. It is the capital of Halland province, which extends along Sweden`s west coast. The landscape is charming with kilometres of sandy beaches surrounded by pine forests. Inland are extensive forest areas, moors overgrown with heather, valleys and mountain ridges. Day trip destinations include the market town of Kungsbacka in the northern part of the province and the Onsala peninsula, where visitors can swim, fish and sail. Further to the south is Varberg, one of the largest beach resort areas in Halland. The town is dominated by its 13th century fortress. Other holiday destinations are Falkenberg and Tylösand, with a beach protected by dunes and pines. The Gulf Stream warms the ocean on Sweden`s west coast during the summer, so visitors can enjoy a wonderful beach holiday in Halland.
