If you like long nights the best place to go is St. Pauli: There are many cult clubs and bars, cheeky theatre performances and a great music scene around the Reeperbahn. Strolling through the boutiques, comical shops and cosy restaurants between the Alster and Elbe rivers is a good way to spend the day.
Strolling on the harbour promenade along the Landungsbrücken gives you a sense of the distant open world. The Reeperbahn is not only full of life at night - at the in-bars, cabarets, musicals and quaint harbour pubs of St. Pauli there is action around the clock. The city by the water is also particularly green: Hamburg is full of avenues, parks and forests. For example go for a walk through the beautiful Alsterpark and finish a perfect day on vacation with a piece of cake at Alstercliff.
Sightseeing: The traditional fish market stroll is an absolute must for every visitor. On Sunday mornings from 5 o’clock the market criers shout their wares. After that you can indulge in an extended walk through Blankenese where typical north German thatched houses are mixed in with impressive mansions. The area near the Elbe River is home to Hamburg’s great and good. A trip on the Elbe is a perfect finish to the day or a romantic boat tour through the illuminated Speicherstadt, the largest warehouse complex in the world.
Shopping: With style through the inner city passages, at the Jungfernstieg or the Eppendorfer boutiques, eccentric and second hand at Marktstraße or individually at Schanzenviertel: in Hamburg you can shop in so many different ways. Don’t miss a visit at the Stilwerk in Altona by the harbour where designer furniture and accessories are displayed on seven floors.
Art, Culture & Entertainment: The Beatles played at the famous Kaiserkeller at the Große Freiheit where even today young and old dance to rock n’ roll music. The Varieté Theatre Dollhouse and Schmidt's Tivoli have long been classics and should be part of every Hamburg trip - just like a visit to the Deichtorhallen, where important contemporary art exhibitions take place.
