The Cuban capital of Havana is one of the largest and liveliest cities in the Caribbean. Declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historical old town has undergone decades of decay, but recently the winds of change have been blowing. Some of the magnificent structures built in the 19th century have been restored with a great deal of talent and improvisation. The famous Hotel Nacional sparkles again with its former radiance, as does the world renowned Cabaret Tropicana. Those who are following Hemingway's tracks can drink daiquiris in El Floridita, the writer's former hangout. In the evening, couples and lovers meet at Malecón, a 5 km long quay, for a stroll. And then there's always time for a visit to one of the many salsa clubs...
