The Upper Austrian regional capital - Europe’s 2009 cultural capital - is building more and more to be a cultural metropolis. The Lentos art museum situated near the Danube displays contemporary art and works from artists like Klimt and Schiele. Along with its Medieval Old Town, the Danube metropolis boasts of numerous Baroque and Renaissance buildings. The world’s steepest, gearless, mountain cog railway ascends to the Baroque pilgrimage church, the famous landmark above the city. From up there, you will enjoy the picturesque view over the Danube valley. Here’s a tip: Linz is a fantastic starting point for a tour on the Danube bike trail.
