If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city Castlefield’s bridges and canals are a good place to be. The architecture mixing Victorian bridges and a Roman fort is spectacular. There is also my favourite pub, Dukes 92.

Manchester in a nutshell

An absolute highlight of the city is the Lowry cultural centre, in the middle of the old Salford Docks. The Lowry is a mix of glass and steel. It combines galleries, theatres, bars, restaurants and a terrific open air plaza. Right next door is the Design Outlet Centre - a shopping paradise! From there it isn’t far to the Old Trafford Stadium home to the popular soccer club Manchester United.

Shopping - Manchester

Shopping: Night owls should make a note of the Trafford Centre where there is late night shopping! All shops are open until 10 pm. The latest trends are offered at Afflecks Palace on four different levels. If you like individually styled fashion the creative district is the place for you. There young designers offer their trendy fashions. Or go for an idyllic stroll in the old part of town of Chester, through half-timbered shopping arcades, the so-called ‘Rows’. A visit to one the lively markets in Manchester such as the Arndale Market is a must.

Culture & excursions - Manchester

Culture & Excursions: Manchester can be proud of impressive architecture and award winning museums, art galleries and theatres and it is also the place where innovative cultural events are held. For example rich treasures of painted art and sculpture are displayed at the Manchester Art Gallery.

The Museum of Science and Technology in Castlefield displays industrial history in an easy to understand and entertaining fashion. Don’t miss an excursion to neighbouring Liverpool and go for a walk in the footsteps of the Beatles.

Sport & activities - Manchester

Sport & activities: Manchester is the gateway to many adventure activities in beautiful nature and wide open landscapes. Cumbria’s Lake District, the largest national park in England with 16 lakes, is a haven for hikers and cyclists, climbers and water sport athletes. In addition, the region around Manchester is a golf mecca.
