The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is the city`s historical centre. This complex, completed in 1515, includes 15 towers. The Archangel Michael Cathedral, completed in 1631, and an arsenal built under Czar Nicholas I, in which exhibitions of international contemporary art are shown, are also located on the Kremlin grounds. A special attraction is the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum, with its 12,000 exhibit pieces, including numerous works by important Russian artists.
