Columbus dropped anchor on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic and built the first Spanish city in America there. Today, 500 years later, tourists from all over the world enjoy the spacious white beaches on the north side of the island, where surfing is a favourite pastime, due to the constant wind. Tip: take the gondola up the 793 metre high local mountain, and at the peak, visit the nature park with its wide variety of rare plants.
