Samara

Samara is an industrial city with more than a million residents located in southern Russia. It is right on the banks of the Volga, Russia's river of fortune. Although Samara is an important industrial centre, culture is also important here. There are numerous theatres and an opera house in Samara. However, to a greater extent Samara's appeal lies in its surroundings and the beautiful landscape of the Volga River. The city has a seemingly endless river promenade and 50 kilometres of beach along a wide bend in the Volga.

Kazan is located to the north of Samara. Kazan is the Tatar cultural centre and visitors can learn a bit about this culture in the State Museum of the Tatar State and the Republic of Tatarstan. The towers and churches of the 16th century Kremlin should be part of every sightseeing itinerary.
