Stockholm – Discover the possibilities

Hardly any other city has as many faces as the royal capital of Sweden. Stockholm is a city of contrasts. It features both a medieval city centre and modern architecture. Outside of this dynamic city, which is, incidentally, built on 14 islands, is a unique archipelago of 24,000 islands and an landscape of magical beauty. The best way to start a stroll through the city is in the old town with its beautiful houses and cobblestone streets. In the pedestrian zones are boutiques and shops offering art and antiques that invite visitors to stop and browse. In addition to the two churches from the 13th century, the magnificent Baroque interior of the German Church is really worth a visit. The royal palace is on the other side of the harbour. During your visit, you can stroll through the state rooms, admire the crown jewels and dive into the past in the palace museum and armoury. From the top of the 100 m city hall tower and from the viewing platform of the 155 m television tower you can enjoy the best views of the city.

The Vasa Museum on the island of Djurgården contains an original warship from the 17th century as an exhibit. Skansen, an open air museum with a zoo and aquarium, is also located on Djurgården island. Over 150 buildings from all over Sweden were rebuilt here and give visitors an impression of the traditional architectural styles from various parts of the country. Altogether there are 150 museums in Stockholm. The National Museum houses Sweden`s most significant art collection. The Stockholm Card not only provides you with free admission to the numerous museums and the royal castle, but you can also use all public transportation in the greater Stockholm area for free, including the boat lines.
