Every infant (aged 2 or under) must be accompanied by at least one adult of at least 16 years of age and travel on the adult’s lap. An infant is not entitled to its own seat, unless you booked a flight with child discount and not a flight for an infant. Every adult must only accompany one infant. In order to avoid health risks, we cannot admit new-born babies until they are seven days old.
Many planes dispose of a baby basket in the first row which can be used by small children up to a weight of 8 kg. You can reserve these seats for our smallest passengers (aged 2 or under) on international flights by calling our Service Centre. The basis for the calculation of the infant fare or the child discount is the age of the child at the time of departure or, in case of a round-trip, the age at the time of the return trip.
For infants up to 2 years old we charge a nominal fee of EUR 15 per route on international short and mid-length flights (CHF 22/CZK 410/GBP 13/SEK 160/USD 21) / EUR 17.85 on domestic German routes and EUR 65 on international flights (CHF 96/CZK 1,676/GBP 57/SEK 670/USD 91). When a flight is booked with Pegasus, we charge a fee of EUR 20 per route. When a flight is booked with SunExpress (SunExpress Aviation Inc. and/or SunExpress Deutschland GmbH) a fee of EUR 15.99 is charged per route.
When booking a flight with Lufthansa, on international routes the infant fare is generally 10% of the applicable, available flight price for adults, plus taxes and fees, if applicable. However, there is no assigned seat. On domestic German routes Lufthansa does not charge a fare for infants. There are also no assigned seats for infants.
When an infant fare is booked for an infant up to 2 years old, 20 kg extra baggage is allowed (includes carry-on and checked baggage).
At TUIfly, children from age 2 up to and including age 11 receive a 25% reduction on the one-way flight price (excluding taxes and fees); children 12 years old and up are booked as adults. On TRANSAVIA flights, children from age 2 to 11 do not receive a discount. When a flight is booked with Pegasus, children receive a 20% reduction on the one-way flight price (excluding taxes and fees); however, there is no child discount on the "Promotion fare".
When booking a flight with Lufthansa, the flight price for children is generally discounted and is based on the rules governing the applicable fare.
