We wish to enable our customers to compensate for the CO2 emissions caused by their flight. We have consequently joined forces with a reputable and independent partner with expertise in climate protection: myclimate.
This Swiss-based international organisation is one of the leading providers of compensation services.
myclimate supports projects which lead to a direct reduction in greenhouse gases and thus enables specific climate protection. The projects are effective in that they substitute renewable energies for fossil fuels or are aimed at making more efficient use of energy.
myclimate projects have to satisfy strict project standards. In addition to reducing greenhouse gases, for example, they also have to make a verifiable positive contribution to sustainable development and be both ecologically as well as socially compatible.
TUIfly customers support Eritrea
Based on the myclimate conversion formula, our customers are advised of the share of CO2 emitted by their flight during the booking process. At the same time, the programme calculates the climate protection donation required to compensate for that CO2 share. Needless to say, this donation to climate protection is completely voluntary. myclimate uses these donations for the development aid project “Energy-saving stoves in Debub, Eritrea, Africa”. The high energy efficiency of the stoves means that far less wood is consumed as fuel, drastically reducing the emission of waste gases. The project not only reduces the continuous felling of trees for use as firewood, but also has a social component. In addition to achieving a certified reduction in CO2 emissions, the new smokeless cooking stoves also substantially improve the living conditions of the population.
Organisation
