Detroit is an industrial city located in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Home to America's automobile industry, it is also called the "Motor City". The city, founded in 1701, currently has just about one million residents. Detroit, an important harbor city, is located between Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. From Detroit, you can also take boat trips and cruises on the Great Lakes, such as Lake Michigan. In Detroit there are numerous museums, art galleries and amusement parks. In the Cultural Center is the Detroit Institute of Arts, one of the largest art museums in the USA. In the Detroit Zoological Park you can visit over 5,000 animals in naturally landscaped enclosures. The Fort Wayne Military Museum is a well preserved fort from the Civil War. In Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit, is the Henry Ford Museum. Detroit is surrounded by the Great Lakes, 60,000 km of rivers and 11,000 lakes, inviting visitors to take a boat or canoe trip or to go fishing.
