Like no other destination, just the name of this island brings about a longing to visit the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. One reason is naturally the endless beaches. Other reasons include the cultural diversity of Zanzibar and, above all, the peaceful way in which these different peoples get along. The architecture of the old town still reflects a synthesis of Arabic, Indian and African influences. Vanilla, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon can be had every day at the spice market. In the evening, people meet at the cookshops on the new beach promenade to eat grilled fish and enjoy the sunset together, watching the dau boats sail by and listening to Taarab music.
